Regain Your Mobility
Prosthetics is an artificial device that replaces a missing body part, which may be lost through trauma,
diabetes, vascular condition, disease, or a condition present at birth (congenital disorder).
At ALC we design custom prosthetic solutions for all levels of lower limb loss using clinically-appropriate
technology and state-of-the-art components.
Our team of experienced prosthetist employs use advanced technology and personalized care to craft custom
prosthetic limbs that fit you perfectly.
Prosthesis at ALC begins with a one-on-one consultation with the clinician and includes evaluation,
recommendations, treatment, education and rehabilitation including gait training.
Our team is dedicated to provide patients with the most effective prosthetic solutions. We are continually working
to advance the care of prosthetics through research and education
Activity Level Of Amputee
Lower Extremity Functional Classifications:
Prosthetic components and design elements are selected based on the patient’s functional level (or “K” Levels 0
to 4). Functional level is determined by the reasonable expectations of the prosthetist.
Click below to read them:
K0: The patient does not have the ability or potential to ambulate or transfer safely with or without
assistance and a prosthesis does not enhance their quality of life or mobility. This level does not warrant
a prescription for a prosthesis.
K1: Has the ability or potential to use a prosthesis for transfers or ambulation on level surfaces at
fixed cadence. Typical of the limited and unlimited household ambulator.
K2: Has the ability or potential for ambulation with the ability to traverse low-level environmental
barriers such as curbs, stairs, or uneven surfaces. Typical of the limited community ambulator.
K3: Has the ability or potential for ambulation with variable cadence. Typical of the community
ambulator who has the ability to traverse most environmental barriers and may have vocational, therapeutic,
or
exercise activity that demands prosthetic utilization beyond simple locomotion.
K4: Has the ability or potential for prosthetic ambulation that exceeds the basic ambulation skills,
exhibiting high impact, stress, or energy levels, typical of the prosthetic demands of the child, active
adult, or
athlete.
